AstraZeneca Stands Firm: Addressing Vaccine Side Effects Concerns and Upholding Claims?

The company AstraZeneca, which produces the Covishield vaccine, has acknowledged the possibility of serious side effects associated with it. The company has admitted in a British High Court that after taking this vaccine, thrombocytopenia syndrome (TTS) and other side effects may occur. However, the company has also claimed that these occurrences are very rare. Along with this, the company has made several other claims. Let’s discuss those claims.

In TTS, blood clots form and platelets drop rapidly. Due to the clotting of blood in the body, the risk of brain stroke or cardiac arrest increases.

Who has dragged AstraZeneca to court?

According to a report by AajTak, a person named Jamie Scott from Britain has filed a case against AstraZeneca. Scott alleged that due to the company’s coronavirus vaccine, they became victims of TTS. They claimed to have suffered brain damage. Besides them, more than a dozen people have also complained to the court. They have also alleged that after taking this vaccine, they had to face side effects. Compensation has been demanded in this matter.

On what claims is AstraZeneca standing?

In court, the company has stated that this coronavirus vaccine was developed in collaboration with the University of Oxford. This can lead to side effects like TTS, but these are very rare. The company has said that it is not correct to say that people are struggling with TTS only after taking the vaccine. AstraZeneca has stated that this vaccine has been found to be very effective in many independent studies. It is necessary to pay attention to these studies. According to AstraZeneca, this vaccine has been accepted in clinical trials and worldwide. This shows that people have benefited from this vaccine. The company has claimed that during the COVID-19 pandemic, the lives of 60 million people worldwide have been saved with the help of this vaccine.

The company says that people are worried after taking the vaccine, but we still stand by our claim that side effects can occur only in extremely rare cases.

In India, the manufacture of this vaccine was done by the Serum Institute of India (SII). It was named Covishield here. Almost 80 percent of the vaccine doses administered nationwide are of Covishield.
